I’m an Alraune, a plant monster child.
Right now, the upper half of a fairy’s body is stuffed inside my mouth.
Fairy-san, craving nectar, did something unthinkable. She dove straight into my mouth.
Thanks to that, I ended up clamping down on Fairy-san’s upper body without meaning to.
That alone wouldn’t be a big problem. The real issue is that my mouth also functions as a stigma.
If pollen from a stamen gets inside my mouth, which is a stigma, then I’ll get pollinated.
After flying all around the forest, it wouldn’t be surprising if pollen from a stamen had stuck to Fairy-san’s body.
If there really is pollen on her body, then that means I’m in the middle of being pollinated right now.
N-no, stooooop!!
I just became a little girl, and I don’t want to be pollinated!
Moreover, if I get pollinated by pollen from another flower, then this former saint’s soul won’t be able to reincarnate as an Alraune anymore.
I never imagined something like this would happen…
There weren’t even enemies, yet an ambush was lurking right next to me!
My life as an Alraune—no, my existence as a flower—is coming to an end today.
I imagined my stomach swelling.
Somewhere out there, a child born from me and Fairy-san who carried pollen from some unknown male flower would be conceived inside the ovule in my belly.
As a former saint, I can probably only be carried on through self‑pollination as an alraune.
That means my reincarnated life might end right here.
Prepared for the end of the world, I quietly let nectar spill from my eyes.
Ugh…
I don’t want to be pollinated…
Pollinated…… huh, wait?
The sensation I felt the last time I was pollinated isn’t coming at all, no matter how long I wait.
Which means…
Could it be… I haven’t been pollinated…?
Y-yaaayyyyy!!
There wasn’t any pollen on Fairy-san.
I’m so glad!
What a relief.
The moment Fairy-san, who might’ve been carrying pollen, entered my mouth, I took on the risk of being pollinated.
That’s why I have to wait a while and check whether pollination actually happened. Until then, there’s no way to be sure.
In other words, my purity as a little Alraune has been preserved.
If there’s no pollen on her, then the fairy inside my mouth is nothing more than a nectar-crazed fairy.
I’d better get her out quickly.
With caution, I tried to pull Fairy-san out of my mouth.
Then, there she was, completely soaked and sticky with nectar.
Her hair, wings, and clothes were all plastered with thick yellow nectar.
It looked as if I had poured a whole jar of honey over her head, leaving her dripping and gooey.
“Ahh, the nectar is flowing into me! The nectar is amaaazing, it’s so good, I love it!!”
What should I do?
Fairy-san is acting even stranger than I expected.
Maybe it’s just my imagination, but it looks like her eyes have turned into heart shapes.
“I want more nectar! Give me more, Alraune!”
“…Okay. But there’s… a condition. If you… listen to my orders… from now on… then I can give you more.”
“I’ll listen to anything! Orders, whatever! I’ll even become yours, Alraune!”
“Eh…?”
You’d go that far?
But Fairy-san, aren’t you supposed to be Lady Dryad’s personal fairy?
“Lady Dryad doesn’t really need me around anyway. So I’ll become Alraune’s fairy instead!”
Fairy-san rubbed her body against my cheek.
Now my face is getting smeared with nectar too, which isn’t pleasant.
“Aren’t you a… forest fairy?”
“That was me until yesterday. Starting today, I’m a flower fairy!”
Fairy-san plopped down onto the top of my flower crown with a sticky thud.
I never thought she’d like nectar so much that she’d switch masters.
But for some reason, instead of being happy about it, I get the sense this is going to turn into a huge hassle.
She keeps muttering “nectar, nectar, nectar” nonstop.
She’s already showing signs of being nectar-crazed, and she looks like she’s going to turn into a very skilled licker.
If this keeps up, I could always just give her back to Lady Dryad.
“From today on, I’m Kiri the flower fairy! Nice to meet you!”
Well, this isn’t how I imagined things would go, but… I guess it’s fine.
The fairy Kiri will probably be even friendlier with me than before.
She seems like she’ll be a handful to deal with… but I’ll endure it for the sake of my life with the little witch.
The fairy, who’d been throwing a tantrum because she wanted more nectar, slipped off my flower crown and fell to the ground.
With a squelch, she stuck to the earth along with the nectar.
Still writhing in the nectar clinging to her whole body, she lets out cheerful noises all by herself.
In this state, it’ll be tough to get any information out of her.
Once Fairy-san comes back to her senses, I’ll ask her about various things, including the Hero’s grave.
As I silently looked down at the fairy, a voice came from the little witch, who was supposed to be lying down.
“Hey, Alraune.”
Looks like she woke up at some point.
I greeted the little witch with a good morning.
“Actually, I heard Alraune talking with Lady Dryad.”
“So you were awake… back then.”
It seems she heard the conversation we had before leaving.
If she’s talking about what I discussed with Lady Dryad, then it must be about how the little witch would be happier living in the city.
“I’ll never live in the city.”
The little witch picked me up, bucket and all.
“Because you and I are always going to be together, Alraune.”
She rubbed her cheek against mine.
Unlike the sticky, unpleasant feeling of the nectar-soaked Kiri, the little witch’s cheek was soft and comforting. For some reason, just being in contact with the little witch makes me feel happy.
Ah, being together with the little witch like this is so calming.
I wish this moment could last forever.
But moments of bliss never last very long.
Because suddenly, a scream rings out from behind us.
“Gahhhh───!!”
That’s Fairy-san’s voice.
Why is she screaming all of a sudden?
I wish she wouldn’t interrupt my time with the little witch.
Sighing inwards, I turned around at the same time as the little witch.
And there we saw it. Fairy-san was being held in the jaws of a giant green lizard.
What’s going on?!
Fairy-san is about to get eaten!
That thing is a lizard-type monster, a Kusai-dex.
But it’s a little different from the Kusai-dex I’m familiar with.
It’s the same in that it’s a giant lizard about the size of an adult human.
However, its entire body is green and covered in bumps.
I’ve seen a lizard like this before in my previous life.
Back when I was a high school girl, I saw it in an animal encyclopedia. Its name was the giant day gecko.
It’s a lizard that mainly lives on the island of Madagascar.
Giant day geckos are omnivorous. They eat insects, but they also have a habit of eating fruit and flower nectar.
So basically, it’s a lizard that sticks out its tongue and licks nectar off flowers.
When a giant day gecko drinks flower nectar, pollen can end up sticking to its body.
If it then moves on to another flower with that pollen still attached, the pollen from the previous flower gets transferred to the next one.
That’s how they end up pollinating flowers. They’re pollinators.
Creatures that carry pollen to pollinate flowers are called pollinators.
My female knights from before were one, and this green lizard is one too.
Which means that if this lizard starts licking me, I’ll get pollinated.
“St-stop it!”
As if voicing my inner thoughts, Fairy-san let out a scream.
She seems to be struggling desperately to avoid being eaten by the green lizard.
The lizard is surely after the nectar.
But being omnivorous, it’s likely trying to eat the her too.
“So many lizards…”
The little witch murmured in a strained voice.
Before I knew it, probably drawn in by the scent of nectar, the area had become swarming with lizards.
There were about ten of those big green lizards here now.
I’m worried that Fairy-san might get eaten, but at the same time, I feel like my own chastity is in jeopardy
After all, if even one of these things licks me, there’s a chance I’ll end up getting pollinated again.
I’ve already experienced self-pollination, but I absolutely refuse to cross-pollinate with someone else.
After I was nearly pollinated by Fairy-san, why do these idiots keep showing up, trying to do it again?!
Getting pollinated by a fairy is bad enough, but lizards?! That’s completely out of the question!
The lizards slowly approached us, sticking out their long, slender tongues.
Every single one of them had the eyes of a nectar-seeking addict.
Right now, I’m a little girl.
Compared to when I was bigger, my combat ability has probably dropped a bit. I might not be able to handle monsters as easily as before.
If I were pollinated by a lizard, my mind as a former saint probably wouldn’t be able to handle it.
Why is this happening?
I worked so hard as a saint, doing my best for everyone in the kingdom. So why am I the only one suffering like this?
I was supposed to be an ordinary saint. So why am I stuck in the forest, fighting lizards over my chastity?
This is all the fault of that damn junior saint-in-training who stole my fiancé, the Hero, betrayed me, and tried to have me killed.
If I could, I’d love to toss that junior right into this pack of lizards. I’m sure it would be a very entertaining dance to watch.
Maybe it was because my emotions were running high, but nectar started dripping from the corners of my eyes.
Reacting to the nectar running down my cheeks, the lizards all broke into a run straight toward me.
One after another, they came running like they were dancing, completely single-minded in their frenzy.
And so began a madness-filled ball, where even a single lick from these rampaging lizards would mean pollination.
